The second piece for Star Army [link] There was a little frustration with this piece in that a couple of communication lines got crossed. But hey, shit happens when you work.

All in all, I enjoyed making this one. Though I can now see a lot of the mistakes I made, I'm still pretty happy with the result. Balancing the relative transparencies of color and texture layers can be challenging, but I begin to see how much depth can be brought to a digital drawing through this technique.

Very MGS (Metal Gear Solid) I like the overall look of this and even the paint job. Extra cool design.

Thanks! I had to make the original design a little less clunky, without altering it completely. It was a fun challenge.

Hey, thanks bro - this was me experimenting with multiple transparency layers. I really liked the result overall, and will do more like this in the future.

Thanks again!!!

Thanks!!!

That was my first try at layering textures. I learned a lot about what goes with what, color-, pattern- and transparency-wise. There WILL be more!

Damn groovy design Newton and I rather dig the subtle spotted cammo patterns :) The leg armor platelets and modular hex plates are very cool as well. I dig!

Thank you. Coming from you that's a high compliment! Gotta say you've got some impressive work on your site - you have NO IDEA how badly I wanted to work on the TTA handbooks... ^_^

You're quite welcome, it is a really cool design, and my thanks for the return kind words :)

TTA was one I kinda landed by an amusingly circular chain of events. Initially I found the gig by accident, it catching my eye only because I was aware of what TTA was having owned the original Spacecraft book... only thing was it was a writing gig. I then fired the information off to my writer friend and co-studio conspirator Jeff "Wolfgang" Lilly to check out. Jeff landed the gig immediately after sending them (Morrigan Press) a 2 page treatment. He ended up doing a LOT of the written material.

At this point it came right back to me in the form of helping with the art. I put together a small team to work on the material (I had nothing to do with the 3D stuff. Though some of it was nicely done I personally would not have gone 3D with any of the TTA material) and we worked on the RPG sourcebook. It was fun while it lasted but unfortunately Morrigan had apparently bit off more than it could chew and eventually the relaunch of TTA screeched to a grinding halt. Unfortunate as it would have been very cool to really explore further :(

There is more to the story though... I'll note you directly.

Please do. I dropped a sample set to Morrigan back when they were doing the books. I got a "hip hip huzzah" note back, to the tune of "we want to work with you," then heard nothing else.

I kinda scratched my head, then quit waiting.

Not surprised that happened unfortunately. I have no bad feelings toward them, even though the situation ended up a bit of a mess. It's pretty much as I wrote, they just bit off more than they could handle and in the end it broke them to the point of having to let the license go. Jeff was pretty tenacious in fighting to keep it going, and was already in direct contact with Cowley, so things kinda went into his court.

The reason it's still in stasis, to some degree, is even with Cowley aboard it's still been difficult to secure a good publisher to get behind it. Seems like a no brainer to me, built in cult following, classic material, etc but, times as they be, everyone is so damn paranoid to jump on anything they can't have guaranteed cash cow money train nirvana. I hope it does get back on track and last we spoke he seemed to be getting something going again. I'll absolutely let him know.

Hey man, thanks - I'd really appreciate that!

I wondered what had happened with the TTA project. So, it fell into publisher hell, eh? That's a shame - it's hard to think of a project that deserves more sunshine.

I hear you on publisher paranoia; it is, unfortunately, an occupational hazard. If there is any way I could be of service in the quest for a publisher, please forward my info to the powers-that-be. And thanks again for the offer of putting in a word for me.

No problem, welcome!

I just realized my browser ate that note I planned to send which was to explain the whole deal as to how it landed back in Jeff's hands. Doh! Ahh the internets.

I'm going to try to catch Jeff as soon as I can so I'll see what I can find out.
