Transforming Hover Bike by newtman001 Transforming Hover Bike by newtman001
A bit of ancient history! I just found this a few minutes ago; it was done as part of my set of "on spec" pieces for my first job with Palladium Books.

I do believe this was published in the Rifts Conversion Book...

Anyway, I still like this design. There are some things I'd change now, but overall I'm happy with it for 1990-vintage work.

I've always been a big fan of your work. I grew up with Rifts books and your artwork -Heck I saw your stuff years before I started watching anime. I have always been awed by your larger pieces, the Dragon Dreadnought, big spaceships, the Evil Millennium Tree. Seeing your DA page has made me go back and spend the last few hours looking through the art in those books. The last hour of that time I spent going through three of the Rifts books taking webcam pics of your art.

If you are able to, you should post more of this on DA.

Thanks for being so awesome <3,
DD

You know, I don't remember a number of these pieces!  Thanks for bringing this to my attention - I will fix this problem ASAP!

Thanks Again,

This was one of my favorites from the RIFTS back in the 90's. It was my player characters ambition in life to own one of these. I love the intricate style of your work. I LOVED your work that was published in the Atlantis book!!!! The rune weapons, the Equestrian, and Serpent power armor, and the Metztla, especialy the Kreelong and Kreewarr Carpaces.

I'd love to see more like this.

Equestrian and Serpent were probably my faves. I wrote one of them (forget which one) up in GURPS and used them as a final boss in one of my games. I had my Amiga (shows you how long ago this was) looping the Final Fantasy battle music in the background.

Yes indeed. I'm doing an Oprah. If I still don't have a job offer between here and December. I'm shutting this down. We are in a state of "depression", and unless a "New Deal" comes around/comes about... this account will be rendered extinct.

I'm getting old, I'm getting tired... and I'm getting old.

Yay! Another of the Rifts Atlantis pictures that I like. I can remember flipping through that book in the gaming isle of Long's Bookstore in Columbus, wishing I had one of these. That, or one of those sweet centaur-like mechs. I can't stand the Palladium system, but dang that setting is awesome.

Not just look at. I've got a copy of Rifts Atlantis on my shelf right now. I couldn't afford to collect too many RPG books back then, when I was a student, but now I've got a real job so I can indulge in some of my youthful fantasies. I love the old-school anime look of this. Like something I would have seen on TV as a kid, badly dubbed into English and with a totally different plot from the original :)

I got the atlantis book back then as a gamemaster and this piece was one of those that made me dream ^_^
I examined the mecha parts in this picture to imagine how it would transform back then :)

Haw this is totally rad, I'm really digging all of the crazy detail and that odd mix of chomic-yet-grungy the old school aesthetic 8D It was stuff like this that made me pick up those rpg's back in the day, I never played em...I'd just stare at the drawings and read the robot/vehicle/monster descriptions over and over X'3

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but there were several Palladium books I bought just for one or two of your illustrations in them...This might be one of them!

Love this thing, beyond belief...Your predilections towards insane detail, quasi-organic stylization, and attention to interpolatable (is that a word?) functionality are all captured beautifully in this piece. Plus, those sublime curves make this object a thing of beauty even from the POV of pure aesthetic abstraction...
:faint: This kind of thing was a huge influence on me!

Oh wow, I remember these designs. I don't remember if they were Conversion Books or Mutants in Orbit. Still, I really loved the designs.

Glad you managed to dig these out.
