Yes, I'm Working On This by newtman001 Yes, I'm Working On This by newtman001
FINALLY I'm getting to pieces that I've held back for so many years!

Fear is a ridiculous thing - I let it stop me at the silliest moments, like when the design is just about finalized. And still we grow...

And yes - This is part of the Mechazoic Era series.

Damn trippy good sir, damn trippy. The detailing on this one seems to flow well too. Dig the gun :) As to BG color (you were noting this one right, in your journal?) that kinda depends on what you choose to paint the mech. Often, once you have that down, it becomes easier to play off of it and choose a color theme that accents the design and doesn't draw away from it.

Looking pretty wild so far and awesome to hear you're conquering fear of working on this stuff. Might as well jump in there and rock out on them ;)

Cheers!

Thanks, brother!

I think your advice is sound; perhaps it's time to dig thru my mecha books & see if there's a color scheme that calls to me. The idea of letting the background follow the mech's coloring is a sound one. I shall keep it in mind.

Oh, and thank you for the compliments! Yeah, I'm definitely working through my fear, which is actually bullshit negativity instilled by working for too many years with player-haters. There's lots to be said for jumping in, and for keeping one's old sketchbooks! ^_^

Yeah, I got a ways to go on this one. But the object of the game is to take it in stages, and not freak out over the whole project at once.

good god man D:

One of these days, you 'n me are gonna have to do a trade-- or even better, a collaboration, like I think one of us suggested. I can't draw mechs to save my life, but I wish I could.. this kind of thing I really admire!

Yep, I'd like to collaborate with you, too! Soon as you're ready, let's make it happen!

I'm also still working on the space dragon; I'm playing with it slowly, always with your "Lanterns" piece on the screen... ^_^

Well, I can't guarantee I'd have time to work on something until after I finish a few obligations, but if it gets the gears stirring in that magnificent head of yours, I love your goddesses-as-mechas pieces, wondered about your take on the Hindu goddesses, or something in that vein. Guaranteed to have lots of light and color (my favorites).

Guarantees are rare in our chosen racket, so I understand. I'm patient, and sooner or later, you'll fall into my Web of Collaboration(tm).

Funny you should mention Hindu deities... I've wanted to revisit them since Pantheons of the Megaverse. It is on my list of things to do, so keep yer eyes peeled! Upgrading the images to include your internal lighting and soft gossamer is something that DEFINITELY must happen. Perhaps we should consider that as a subject of collaboration?

Eeeeexcellent! But woo, I'm glad our minds are paralleled on that one! Perhaps with enough experience staring intently at your work I might try my hand at designing something myself.. then it will be me begging you for crits and redlines! I would like to design a mech based off of a peacock for no reason other than what has almost become an in-joke, but as I said, my mech-design skills are poor, so I will probably try to dissect more of your process (and be unhappy I was unable to actually attend your workshop at Neko!)

Worry not, my dear. Everything I went over at Nekocon, and more, is yours for the asking.

Peacock mecha are always worth doing! Someday I will attempt one myself; I came close once, but wussed out. I say do it, and make use of the experience here at dA to make the best one possible. As far as critiques and redlines, I'm always available to you at any time. You've extended yourself for me, and I'm more than happy to return the favor!

:O Wow, I like the falcon head touch to it, and the weapon reminds me of a Shemarrian rail gun - classic, this totally brings me back to your old stuff; looking forward to how you blend it with the new.

Thank you!!! Yeah, this piece always felt like I was getting back in touch with my old true style. That said, I think you'll like how I merge this with my current style. This is a great opportunity to try some stuff I've wanted to for a while now.

Thanks for the compliment on the falcon head. I've always loved Garuda, from Indian and Indo-Chinese legend. This is my interpretation of the deity, in line with the Mechazoic Era.

I was like, hmmm, Garuda... then I went and pulled out Pantheons of the Megaverse and shit - you did pretty much all those gods, didn't you? They're all tops, Siva though takes the cake, wish they went with that interpretation stat-wise as well as visually.

Thank you! Yeah, well I felt that most of the deities covered in PotM got pretty short shrift. I mean, they're deities, right? But hey, it wasn't my book - I just got paid to draw them... ^_^
